Acts 8:26-40, Obbey the Holy Spirit (Phillip’s evangelism)

26-40,
26.Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Go south to the road -- the desert road -- that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza."
27.So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship,
28.and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet.

29.The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it."
30.Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked.
31."How can I," he said, "unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
32.The eunuch was reading this passage of Scripture: "He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before the shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
33.In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth."
34.The eunuch asked Philip, "Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?"

35.Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.
36.As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water. Why shouldn't I be baptized?"
37.(BLANK)
38.And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.
39.When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.
40.Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.

<Sermon Summary>
While revival was taking place in Samaria, the Holy Spirit told Philip to go into the wilderness. There are many reasons to disobey, but he obeys and goes there, where he meets the Ethiopian eunuch finance minister. Philip teaches him the Bible and baptizes him.
1. Receive the guidance of the Holy Spirit (Vs. 26, 29, 39, 40).
Evangelism/mission and soul salvation must be guided by the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit comes, we receive power and become witnesses of the gospel(1:8). If you obey the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you will get good results. Philip obeys the Holy Spirit and preaches gospel(Jesus Christ). Take this spiritual sensor.
People in the world are excited and ignited by fame, popularity, money, and recognition from others. Those who believe in Jesus must have their hearts pounding and on fire with the Holy Spirit, prayer, and the Word (if a cannonball catches fire, it has a great impact). Through Philip's obedience, the minister understands the Bible, believes in Jesus, is baptized, and is overflowing with joy. Philip's wilderness evangelism is the work of his harmonious union with the Holy Spirit.

2. How are the roles of the Holy Spirit and human preparation harmonized?
 1) The guidance of the Holy Spirit (8:26,29,39): The Holy Spirit guides.
 2) Philip's preparation: A heart of obedience, language, open mind to foreign cultures, evangelism training, and study of the Word are necessary. 26,29,39, Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and respond to His voice.
 3) Obedience (8:1): Obey as is.
 4) Open mind toward language and foreign cultures (2-3): Philip is a Hellenistic Jew who is open to foreign cultures.
 5) Evangelism training, word training (4-5): He was prepared through training in the word and evangelism. Phili[ explain the minister Isa 53:7,8, and he believed in Jesus Christ and were baptized.

Dear saints, I pray that, like Deacon Philip, we too will obey the guidance of the Holy Spirit, have an open mind to the gospel and foreign culture, and spread the gospel well through evangelism and word training to save lives, solve problems, and bring joy and peace to our hearts. Amen.
