<1 Chronicles 16:1-6 — God Is the Center>

16:1-6, 1. He carried the ark of God in and placed it in the tent that David had pitched for it, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings to God. 2. When David had finished offering the burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD. 3. He gave a loaf of bread, a cake made of palm, and a cake made of raisins to every man and woman in the multitude of Israel. 4. He also appointed Levites to serve before the ark of the LORD, to praise, give thanks to, and glorify the LORD, the God of Israel. 5. Asaph was the chief, and next in him were Zechariah, Jeiel, Semiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel. They played the harp and the lyre, and Asaph struck the cymbals with power. 6. The priests Benaiah and Jahaziel blew the trumpets at all times before the ark of the covenant of God.

<Sermon> Beloved Brothers and sisters, after moving the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, David first offered burnt offerings and peace offerings to God, blessed the people, and appointed the Levites to praise Him. The important principle shown to us through all these events is that “God must be the center.” The church, the family, and our lives are built up healthily when God is at the center. Ephe.4:3, Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
1. The Center of the Church is God, Not Man (1-2)
Although David was a king, he did not exalt himself. He placed the Ark of the Covenant in the center of the tabernacle and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings to God. The center of the church is not any single person, but God alone. When man is at the center, conflicts arise due to opinions and emotions, but when God is at the center, our hearts gather toward God.
We, too, must first ask, “Does this work please God?” rather than, “Am I being acknowledged?” I hope our church becomes a church that exalts the name of God more than the name of man.

2. God’s Presence Binds the Community as One (1-3)
The Ark of the Covenant symbolized the presence of God. The people worshipped in the presence of God, shared food together, and shared their joy. The most important reason why different people can become one is not because they share the same thoughts, but because they look to one God. When the church is filled with God's presence, we do not view one another as competitors, but as members to be loved. If there is someone who feels uncomfortable, let us not look only at that person, but look to God. The unity of the church is not about adjusting to one another, but about adjusting together to God.

3. Let Us Serve in Our Each Place Within a God-Centered Order (4-6)
In verses 4-6, the Levites took on their respective roles, praising, playing musical instruments, and blowing trumpets. Although not everyone performed the exact same tasks, they shared the single purpose of serving God. In the church as well, some teach, some praise, some pray, and some serve in unseen places. What is important is not what we do, but for whom we do it. Even if people do not acknowledge it, God sees our service. We are not the owners of the church, but members that make up the body of Christ.

Application/Beloved saints, let us ask ourselves three things today.
“Am I truly placing God at the center of my life?” “Am I a person who builds up the unity of the church, or one who breaks it?” “Am I using the gifts and talents God has given me for His glory, rather than for my own?”
Resolution / “God, let God be the center of our church. Fill us with Your presence, and let me use all the gifts and talents You have given me for Your glory and the gospel. Let me build up the church, the body of Christ, through loving, praying, and serving.”
Prayer/Heavenly Father, let the center of our church be not man, but God alone. Fill us with Your presence, and let us love one another and become one. Let us use the gifts and talents You have given us with joy for Your glory to build a healthy church. Let us make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 1) Where did David place the Ark of the Covenant, and what did he offer before it? (1) David placed the Ark of God in the center of the tent he had pitched, and before it, he offered burnt offerings and peace offerings to God.
2) What did David do for the people after he finished the sacrifices? (2-3) David blessed the people in the name of the LORD and distributed bread, palm cakes, and raisin cakes to all the people, both men and women.
3) What duties did the Levites perform before the Ark of the Covenant? (4-6) The Levites praised, gave thanks to, and lauded God before the Ark. Asaph and his brothers played musical instruments, and the priests blew trumpets.

2. Interpretation
1) Why did David place the Ark of the Covenant in the center of the tent and offer sacrifices to God first? (1-2) Because the Ark of the Covenant symbolized God's presence, David placed God at the center of the kingdom and the people and worshipped God. This demonstrates that the center of the church must be God, not man.
2) What does it mean to share food with the people and rejoice together? (2-3) It shows that worship offered to God should lead not only to a relationship with God but also to fellowship and sharing within the community. In God's presence, the people rejoiced together and formed a unified community.
3) What do the diverse roles of the Levites teach the church? (4-6) Although each person had a different role, they all shared the single purpose of praising and serving God. The church, too, must achieve God-centered order and beautiful cooperation as each member serves according to the gifts received from God.

3. Application
1) Am I placing people or my own will at the center of my life, my home, and my church, rather than God? I must reflect on whether I am seeking God's will and joy before human approval or my own opinions. In every decision, I must first ask, "Does this bring glory to God?" 2) Am I building the unity of the church, or am I causing difficulties for the community with my own thoughts and emotions? For different believers to become one in heart, we must look to God together rather than trying to conform to one another. I must first love and forgive, thereby building the harmony and unity of the church.
3) How am I using the gifts and talents God has given me? I must use the abilities and talents I have received not for my own boasting or benefit, but for the glory of God and the gospel. I must remember that God is pleased to accept even small acts of service that people do not acknowledge. Eph.4:3, Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

4. Resolution /What will I resolve to do today?/“God, I will make God the sole center of my life and our church. I will long for God’s presence, strive to maintain the unity of the church, and use the gifts and talents God has given me not for my own glory, but for the glory of God and the gospel. I will build up the church, the body of Christ, through my love, prayer, and service.”
5. Prayer/Heavenly Father, may the center of our church be God alone, not man. May God’s presence fill us completely, and may we love one another and become one. May we joyfully use the gifts and talents given to us for the glory of God to build up the church, the healthy body of Christ.
