19:1-10, 1.Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2.A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3.He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4.So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. 5.When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." 6.So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. 7.All the people saw this and began to mutter, "He has gone to be the guest of a sinner." 8.But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount." 9.Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10.For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."

<Sermon Summary>
Everyone lives with weaknesses. We may feel discouraged by financial hardships, health issues, family pain, or the scars of failure and sin. However, weaknesses are not merely obstacles that bring us down; they can actually become channels of grace through which we rely more deeply on God and encounter Jesus.
1. What are his weak points? He overcame the obstacles.
Zacchaeus, the figure in today’s passage, was a wealthy chief tax collector, yet he was hated and shunned by the people. He also faced the physical disadvantage of being short in stature. Nevertheless, he did not let his weaknesses or the obstacles around him defeat him. Driven by a desire to meet Jesus, he climbed a sycamore tree. Jesus looked up at Zacchaeus in the tree and called him by name.

2. Jesus met him & saved him.
"Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." (5)
Zacchaeus welcomed Jesus with joy, and his life underwent a remarkable transformation. He resolved to give half of his possessions to the poor and to repay fourfold anything he had obtained through fraud. The profound emotion of meeting Jesus changed his life. Jesus did not view Zacchaeus merely as a sinner; He sought out the man whom others had shunned and brought salvation to his home (10). "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham." (9) Jesus then clearly stated the purpose of His coming to earth:
"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." (Luke 19:10)

3. Let me also meet Jesus, overcome my weaknesses, and live as a new person.
We, too, have weaknesses and shortcomings. Yet, do not be discouraged by them. Instead, rely more fully on the Lord when you are weak. For those held fast by God, weaknesses are no longer a cause for despair, but an opportunity to experience God's power. Jesus does not turn away from our failures, sins, wounds, and weaknesses; instead, He comes to us. When we truly encounter Jesus and welcome Him as the Lord of our lives, we are transformed anew.
Let us not be defeated by our weaknesses; rather, let us rely even more on Jesus when we are weak. I pray that you become a blessed believer who experiences God’s power revealed through your weakness and lives a new life after meeting Jesus—just as Zacchaeus did.
"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." — 2 Cor.12:9
Prayer/Dear Lord, thank You for coming to us in our weakness and calling us by name.
Help us to rely on You, overcome our weaknesses, and welcome Jesus as the Lord of our lives.
Transform our hearts and lives, just as You transformed Zacchaeus, and let Your power be revealed through our weakness.
May we always remember, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." In Jesus' name, Amen.

1. Observation - What do we discover in the text?

What kind of person was Zacchaeus? (1-2)
He was a chief tax collector in Jericho and a wealthy man. Although he held high social status and possessed great wealth, he was regarded by others as a sinner. Why was it difficult for Zacchaeus to see Jesus? (3) He was short in stature, and there was a large crowd. How did Zacchaeus overcome these obstacles? (4) He ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see Jesus.
What did Jesus do regarding Zacchaeus? (5-6) He called him by name and said He would visit his home. Zacchaeus hurried down and welcomed Jesus with joy. What changes appeared in Zacchaeus after meeting Jesus? (8) He pledged to give half of his possessions to the poor. He resolved to repay fourfold anything he had obtained through fraud or extortion. How did Jesus declare the change in Zacchaeus? (9-10) He declared, "Today salvation has come to this house."

2. Interpretation - What does this passage mean?

Zacchaeus faced challenges regarding his occupation, human relationships, physical limitations, and sin. However, his weaknesses became the very opportunity for him to meet Jesus. Jesus sought out Zacchaeus—whom others had shunned—and called him by name. Those who truly encounter Jesus do not remain in the past; the direction and values ​​of their lives are transformed. Zacchaeus’s repentance did not stop at words but manifested in changes to his material life and actions. Jesus seeks out the weak and the broken to save them and enables them to live a new life. "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." (19:10)

3. Application – How should I live?

Let me not be discouraged by my weaknesses. I believe that my weaknesses can also serve as channels for God’s work.
Let me look to Jesus rather than the obstacles. Like Zacchaeus, let me actively step forward to meet Jesus.
Let me welcome Jesus as the Lord of my life. Believing in Jesus is not merely about religious observance; it is about a fundamental shift in the direction of my life.
Let me demonstrate repentance through action. I will reflect on what needs to change regarding my relationships, my use of material possessions, and my words and deeds.
My Application: What weakness am I struggling with right now? What practical step can I take today to draw closer to God through that weakness?

4. Resolution – What will I decide today?
"I will not give up because of my weaknesses; instead, the weaker I am, the more I will rely on Jesus. Like Zacchaeus, I will joyfully welcome Jesus and become a person whose repentance and transformation are evident in my life."

5. Prayer/"Loving Lord, help me not to be discouraged by my weaknesses and shortcomings, but rather to rely on You all the more through them. I believe that You, who sought out Zacchaeus and called him by name, are coming to meet me today as well. Help me to welcome Jesus as the Master of my life, to repent where repentance is needed, and to live a transformed life. May Your power be revealed in my weakness, and may Your love and saving grace flow through me to others. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen."
